SLOAN KETTERING APPOINTMENT

Tuesday, December 16, 2014

Well we found out from the oncologist's office that Mike will not be able to take the oral chemo pill because his health insurance does not have prescription coverage.   They sent all of Mike's medical records to Sloan Kettering in New York City for review so an appointment could be scheduled.   Sloan Kettering called me and an appointment has been scheduled for Wednesday, January 7th.

I had initially called Sloan to inquire about the Mike getting an appointment there, and they advised me that Mike cannot be under any treatment for him to be evaluated there.  From there, I asked the oncologist's office to schedule the appointment since they have most all of the records at their disposal. I will take along all the records that I have gathered since the very beginning.  We had to call to have slides from Mike's liver and lung biopsies sent as well.  Hopefully, since Mike will be seeing an oncologist who specializes in colorectal cancer, he will be aware of some other treatment options unknown to Mike's oncologist here who sees all types of cancer.

We have heard good things about Sloan Kettering and certain treatment options they may suggest might be able to be done here.  The one things that Mike is concerned about is the drive into New York City. He is planning on us leaving during the middle of the night to beat the traffic so we can make sure that we get there on time.  We were also advised that if we do not leave New York by mid-afternoon, we should wait and leave later to avoid the traffic from people leaving work.  Others have suggested we park in New Jersey and take the train into the city.  It will be a new experience for us but one that I know we can handle.   Mike has handled everything that has come at him thus far and with his determination, he will handle this too.

Wishing you all Happy Holidays and best wishes for a great New Year.  May your journey seeking treatment for your or your loved ones' cancer be positive!

CEA TEST RESULTS NOVEMBER 2014

Wednesday, November 26, 2014

Mike had his meeting today with his oncologist.   The CEA which we were hoping would still be low has raised to 39.9 so that indicates that the cancer is coming back.   Mike was very disappointment with this result as he has been really regimented in his diet and the supplements he is taking as well as the weekly Vitamin C treatments.

I felt that this was our best visit with the oncologist.  He seemed much more open to other options of treatment and even suggested that Mike get another opinion from a colorectal oncologist.   He said that since he treats all different types of cancer, that seeing a more specialized oncologist that there may be other options and newer treatments for Mike to try.   He mentioned Hersey Medical Center right here in Pennsylvania, Sloan Kettering in New York City, and one more that we cannot remember.   I know a couple of people who have gone to Sloan Kettering for lunch cancer and have had wonderful results.

Mike opted to take the oral chemotherapy pill, (Capecitabine is a prodrug, that is enzymatically converted to 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) in the body.) The 5FU is one of the drugs that was in the "cocktail" of drugs that Mike received his chemo intraveneously.   The 2 possible side effects the doctor told Mike he could get would be diarrhea and Hand foot syndrome which is (reddening, swelling, numbness and skin sloughing or peeling) on palms of the hands and soles of the feet (and, occasionally, on the knees, elbows, and elsewhere) that can occur in patients with cancer. However, he thought that these would be unlikely.   We are hoping that is the case,  He will take 2 tablets in the morning and 2 tablets in the afternoon every day for 2 weeks.  He will then go off the tablets for 1 week.   He will repeat this cycle 3 times.   At that time, another CEA level will be done.

We have decided that we also want to pursue seeing a colorectal oncologist at Sloan Kettering as well to find out what they think of Mike's condition and what other options they may have for him.
Mike is still continuing with a variety of his supplements and his strict no carb/sugar diet and his infra red sauna treatments.     We will see how things go with this next step in his treatment.

I will repost when I have more information about scheduling an appointment at Sloan Kettering and with the results of Mike taking the oral chemo tablets.

CT SCAN AND CEA RESULTS FROM OCTOBER 16, 2014

Wednesday, October 29, 2014

Sorry I have not gotten back to let you all know how Mike made out with his CT scan results and CEA test.    We met with the doctor on Monday, October 27th.   He told us and showed us that the tumors in the lungs have decreased in numbers.  He told us and tried to show us the liver tumors on the scan, however, all we could see was some shadowing.  He did say that the liver did show decrease in the liver as well.  He did not tell us, but the report stated that there were tumors seen in the liver and lungs on his previous scan that were NO LONGER VISIBLE on this scan!.   It did also mention that there was nothing detectable in the loop of the small bowel.   Mike's CEA test did rise from 2.1 when he was in Germany to 3.3.   He is a little bummed out about this.   The normal range is .5 to 2.5.  The doctor told Mike that he had some options:

1.  Do another round of chemo.
2.  Seek alternative treatment.   We cannot afford that at this time.
We are hoping that we can save enough for Mike to return to Germany in 6 months recommended by Dr, Weber.  He recommended this to try to  keep his "state" where it is or reduce it even more.
3.  Do nothing and keep an eye on any progression and return.
4.  Maintenance chemo.  He could have the choice of 2 different
chemo drugs.  There was one I do not remember the name of
and one Avastin, which was part of his "cocktail mixture" that
he he has had each chemo round.   The other was a chemo
pill Capecitabine which seems to be a pill form of the chemo
drug that Mike would get through a pump system that he wore
at home for 2 days following each of his chemo sessions.  He
would take pills in the morning and evening every day for
2 weeks and then off for one week.

Mike told the doctor that he has changed his diet up by eliminating almost all carbs.   He is only eating broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, brussel sprouts, and cabbage as well as salmon.   He wants to see if that will help lower is CEA.   The doctor was OK with this and has ordered another CEA for a month.

We also discovered a supplement through a Facebook page I follow that a man took who had Stage 4 colon cancer and was given 3-6 months to live.  He has been taking Essaic now for 10 years.  Mike is going to try that as well.   Mike is so dedicated to doing whatever it is he has to do.  He told the doctor he feels good and does not have any pain.   I hope that continues to be the case as he fights this.   He will return to see the doctor the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.  So hoping that the results will be something to be thankful for that day.   I will keep you posted on the outcome of that test and his doctor's appointment.

RETURN FROM ALTERNATIVE TREATMENT IN GERMANY 09/02/14

Thursday, September 11, 2014      Patriot's Day here in the U.S.

Mike made it safely back home on Sunday, September 7th.  His friend, Jeremy, rode with me to Newark to pick him up.   His flight got in about a 1/2 hour early, but we arrived just as this flight was landing.  He was supposed to come into Terminal C so we parked and made our way into the arrival area only to find that they changed the location for his arrival to Terminal B.  We, therefore, had to make our way back outside to the parking lot and then find a way to get over to that parking lot.   We then waited over an hour for him to make his entrance.   We made a sign for Jeremy to hold that said (Dad).  Even though they are friends, Mike is old enough to be Jeremy's Dad.

Mike basically had the same treatment at Marinus that he had when we were there last year which was hyperthermia, ozone drips Vitamin C infusions, selenium infusions, Mistletoe injections, Chinese worm wood infusion, and massage.  He did get a foot detox that pulls all the toxins out of your body through a foot soak.  He said when done, the water solution was black.    Mike came back home with additional supplements that he had not taken the first time around and some he had on his first trip to the clinic.   These include:

Ortho Molar Probiot  - A carefully assembled cast of probiotic organisms arrayed to support microflora balance, encouraging a healthy environment for vitamin uptake and optimal immune function.

Selenium - Some supporters claim selenium protects the body against cancer by causing cancer cells to die before they have a chance to grow and spread.

Basentabs - to increase the body's PH.

Folsaure tablets - too little folic acid not enough red blood cells can be produced, which means that the body can not be adequately supplied with oxygen.    Cancer does not like oxygen.

Artesunate tablets - All cancer cells need plenty of iron to multiply. In other words, cancer cells have a much higher iron concentration than normal cells. During the study, the researchers pumped cancer cells with maximum iron concentrations and then injected artemisinin into them. The results revealed that artemisinin had the properties of killing and inhibiting cancer cells.

Matricelle - The Matricell queens Potion helps the immune system to better cope with the problems of everyday life and reduces the risks that may arise for the organism due to environmental pollution through physical and emotional overuse (stress).

BitterKraft - Bitter tasting herbs affect physiological reactions, working as a tonic, a relaxer, and an astringent. Taking BitterKraft!®Original helps the entire being to achieve a vibrant and new equilibrium. It's time-honored formula has unique synergistic properties.

One of the things that Mike ate last year at his meals was Quark.  It is a white soft cheese which is like a cross between cream cheese and sour cream.   It is blended with flax seed oil.  Mike would then add flax seed on top.  This is a main food used in the Budwig cancer diet.   The closest thing we could think of to compare it to here in the states is a blended up cottage cheese.    Mike would not try that so I purchased some organic yogurt for him.   He did not like that either. However, since coming home this time, he has gone to the grocery store and purchased organic yogurt and has been eating that with the flaxseed oil and the flax seed.  The premise of the Budwig diet is as follows:

Dr. Budwig’s protocol includes a proper diet, which for the unhealthy is likely to be a   radical lifestyle change (but so are chemotherapy treatments). Dr. Budwig allows no refined sugars and no animal proteins except for quark (a type of cheese) or cottage cheese.  But the most important part of her program, and certainly the most well known, is the mixture of quark and flaxseed oil.
Fat is fat soluble, which means it has to be processed by bile from the liver and gallbladder. When someone is sick enough to have cancer (or any other inflammatory disease for that matter), their ability to process and absorb fats is drastically reduced. Quark and cottage cheese are rich in sulphurated proteins. When these proteins are mixed with fat, the fat becomes water soluble and no longer needs the liver’s help to be absorbed into the body’s cells. Furthermore, even a healthy body can only assimilated so much fat at once when the fat is not water soluble. Dr. Budwig’s method saturates the body with omega 3 anti-inflammatory fatty acids, a process which oxidizes the cells and restores health at a cellular level.
The first day after his arrival in Germany, Mike had his CEA level checked.   It was still 2.6.  Dr. Weber told him the cancer was still stable. The following Monday, the CEA level was down to 2.1 which is within the "normal" range.  Mike had an ultrasound done on his liver and Dr. Weber did not see anything.  He also checked the kidneys which has never been an issue, and he did not see anything there either.     Mike was to have a CT scan done September 10th and then follow up with his oncologist here in 1 week, but Dr. Weber suggested that Mike wait a month to give his body a chance to respond to the treatment he had there before having this done.  So currently we are waiting to find out what date this CT scan is rescheduled to and then make a follow up appointment to go over the results.

Although the weather was rainy most of the time, Mike was able to go up to the top of the mountain with some friends he made at the clinic.   He also made a couple of trips by train into Kufstine, Austria and was able to see different areas that we had not seen last year.  He also took the train into Rosenheim for the beer festival.   This time he obtained a bicycle to go into town and go for rides.  He met Dawn and Micah from Washington and Marissa and her family from Australia.   He had a chance to meet Leigh and her husband from England who is battling ovarian cancer that had gone undiagnosed 17 times by physicians in England.   http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/woman-who-claims-uk-doctors-3817812#.U-Flg0rfTxU.facebook

The people who work at Marinus must really enjoy their jobs there and love what they are able to do for all the patients who travel there as everyone that was there last year is still there.   So that really tells you what kind of caring place for treatment Marinus is.  Even though not everyone may be able to speak English, you are still able to communicate and know that they are there for you and to help you in any way that they can.  We are so thankful for the Drs, Weber for providing this place and this service for people from all over the world to be able to go there for healthy, alternative treatment.

SAFE ARRIVAL FOR MIKE

Sunday, August 24, 2014

I was able to face time with Mike around 11:00 this morning.  He stated things went smoothly checking in and getting through security.   He arrived at the clinic at 8:30  German time which would be 2:30 AM here.and was greeted/hugged by Dr. Weber. He was not really able to sleep on the plane, and when I talked to him, he stated that he really has not slept yet.   He had a couple of basic treatments already this morning,  He did, however, fall asleep for a short amount of time when he had one of the treatments.  He told me some amazing news - Dr. Weber did an ultrasound on his kidneys and liver and could not find anything.  He will sit down with Dr, Weber tomorrow to get his official blue treatment book and start his full alternative treatment.

He has met a bunch of people who are already staying there from the states.   He says there are a couple people from Washington, one from New York, and one from Texas.  They are planning on taking a hike tomorrow up the mountain to a church we went to last year, but we did not take our camera with us.  He is going to take his ipad with him so hopefully he will get great pictures.  He showed me his room which is different than the room last year since he is the only one staying there.

However, he has not met Leigh who I posted about in a previous blog.  He has been told that she has been quite ill.  I am wishing that things turn around and she starts feeling better.

I hope to hear from Mike again shortly before he retires to bed for the night.  I know he will be anxious to start his full day of treatment.

LEAVING FOR GERMANY

Saturday, August 23, 2013

Well... today's the day that Mike returns to Germany.  The doctor and his wife (who I used to work for) drove us to Newark for Mike's flight.  We got there in plenty of time.  We parked the car and walked inside with him to make sure we got his ticket and got him to security.  I thought I would be all teary eyed, but was only a little bit.

After arriving home, I went on the airline site and have been following his flight to see his progress.  I hope he made it through security and got to his gate without any problems.

Until I hear from him tomorrow.

ANXIOUS ABOUT MIKLE"S TRIP BACK TO GERMANY

Friday, August 22, 2014

Although I want Mike to get as much healthy, alternative cancer treatment as he can, I will be counting the days until he is back home safely with me.  I have to not be selfish in wanting him here when he is receiving healthy, necessary cancer treatment he can to help treat his cancer and to extend his time on here on earth with me, family, our dogs, and friends.  We have great friends here who will keep me company and look after me.  I know that Dr. Weber and his great staff will do the same for Mike at Marinus.

COUNTDOWN TO DEPARTURE DATE

Friday, August 15, 2014

To see the actual countdown clock, click on the link below.

http://countingdownto.com/countdown/mike-s-flight-for-german-cancer-treatment-2014-08-23-countdown-clock

Well ......... the countdown to Mike's departure for his flight to Germany begins as he leaves next Saturday.    I think my anxiety will gradually build as the time flies for him to leave for his solo flight.  I just hope if he needs help in finding out where he needs to go, he will ask.  We all know how men like to ask for help or directions!

My former boss has offered to drive Mike and I to Newark Airport which is so much appreciated.   I did not want to have to drive all that way by myself.

I am so hopeful for even more success for Mike since his condition with his levels and size of the cancers is less than it was last year at this time.

I have met a new friend through Facebook, Leigh Naylor, who is from England.  She is currently at Marinus am Stein having arrived there last week.  She will be there for 4 weeks.  She said she will be looking forward to Mike's arrival.  I have shown him her Facebook page, so it is nice that he will have someone that he knows something about when he arrives.   Check out her story at the link below:

So this shows just one more story of someone being limited by their government/insurance restrictions of trying to obtain healthy, alternative cancer treatment.

Thanks again for everyone's support for Mike and your interest in this blog.  We love everyone one of you and wish you the best in your health.

TRIP TO GERMANY PUSHED BACK APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH

Wednesday, July 30, 2014

At this point, Mike would be counting down the days until he returned back home from Germany.  However, on June 23rd at his 10th chemo treatment meeting, his oncologist told him that he wanted Mike to go to Germany and have his treatment there, but then when he came back home, he wanted him to have the last two treatments so that he would have a total of 12 chemo treatments this time around.  Arrangements were made at that time for him to have the 11th treatment on August 4th, the day after he was to return from Germany.

I was a little shocked that Mike had agreed to this.    I could not see Mike going to Germany to have his immune system boosted and his whole body made healthier only to come back here and have two immune destroying, damaging chemo treatments.  I think that Mike just wanted to avoid any confrontation with the doctor, so he agreed to that.

Later that night at home we talked, and Mike decided he would finish out the last two treatments before he went to Germany.  I made Dr. Weber aware of the plan, and he said that Mike should wait an additional two weeks after his last chemo treatment before heading to the clinic.  Verena was able to accommodate the change in date for Mike's arrival.  Mike will now be leaving on August 23rd.  He will start his first day of treatment on August 25th and be there for 2 weeks.  He will leave Germany and arrive home on September 7th.  We were also able to make the changes with the airline.   I am just happy that he will not be traveling over Labor Day weekend.   I think that would be overwhelming for him since he is not a worldwide or airline traveler.

The effects from the 10th and 11th treatments were really rough on Mike.   Each time they seem to get a little worse.  The heat and humidity particularly affect him since he works out in the heat.   It really wipes him out.   The week of his last treatment, he came home, ate dinner, did his paperwork, and was in bed before 7:30.   I am hoping the weather is better this next coming week and that he will not be affected as strongly.

It will be a long two weeks for me, but we will be able to face time, and he has the ability to watch videos and play games on his Ipad.    I am hoping that he is able to meet some great people like we did last year and that he will be able to get out and do some more sightseeing and hiking and experiencing some new things with them.    I am hoping Mike will be able to give me some great details on his stay, since I will not be there with him to experience it and then keep everyone up to date on what is going on there.

FIGHT FOR MIKE

55days left$275raised of $5,000 goal

Organizer: LORDS CANCER CAREBeneficiary: Michael Lord
Fight for Mike is a campaign to raise money for Mike Lord's fight again Stage IV colon, liver, and lung cancer, particularly funding the cost to travel to Germany for alternative treatment.

Mike Lord is a relatively quite person who does not like to bring any attention to himself. His greatest passion is fishing and his family.

Mike's story started a little over a year ago .  He was 47 years old, married to Debbie, and had 3 furbabies.   Mike appeared to be in perfect health.  Mike had a cough in February of 2013 that just would not go away.  After no improvement with prescriptions, a chest x-ray was ordered which diagnosed lung cancer. From there, a CT scan was ordered which revealed liver cancer and then a PET scan which revealed colon cancer - and this is very everything started.

Mike started chemotherapy treatment in April of 2013.   During this time, information about alternative cancer  treatment at Klinik Marinus am Stein in Brannenburg, Germany was presented to him.  After researching and speaking to others who had been there for treatment, Mike's mind was made up, this is where he wanted to go for positive cancer treatment.  While waiting to receive confirmation that the clinic would be able to accept Mike as a patient, he underwent a total of 6 chemotherapy treatments here at home as well as Vitamin C infusions.

Mike made the trip to Germany in August of 2013 for 3 weeks.  There the treatment consisted of hyperthermia, high dose Vitamin C infusions, mistletoe injections, oxygen therapy, etc. - all holistic, gentle treatments. Ultrasound testing in Germany and subsequent PET scan here in the states revealed no sign of the colon cancer.  However, Mike's oncologist states he still has colon cancer.

Mike was able to hold his own doing the allowed alternative treatments available here in the United States.   However, by February 2014, his cancer marker was starting to go back up.  At that time, Mike was forced to start chemotherapy again to try to shrink the tumors down knowing all the while what the chemotherapy drugs were doing to his body.  Mike will have a total of 10 chemotherapy treatments here before going back to Germany for a 2 week stay.  While things seem to be going the other way, we need them to continue in that manner.    Mike wants them to continue to be done so in a positive, healthy manner.  That is why he wants to return to the clinic in Germany.

Any donation amount will help get Mike to Germany and will be greatly appreciated.  no amount is too big or small.

LAST CHEMO TREATMENT BEFORE GERMANY FOR ALTERNATIVE CARE

Monday, July 7, 2014

Well......Mike has had 4 more chemo treatments since that last time I wrote on the this blog which brings him to a total of 10 treatments this time around.    Mike finally told his oncologist at his last visit on June 23rd that he was only going to do one more treatment and then head back to Germany.   I was not with him at that appointment, but he stated that the doctor seemed happy for him.

At today's appointment, the doctor reviewed Mike's CEA test that he had done last week as well as undergoing the 10th treatment.   Now again, the normal range listed is 0.5-2.5.   Mike's result was 2.6.   I asked the doctor how it can be so close to normal but he still has cancer in his body.  He stated that for cancer to show up on the CEA test, you have to have millions of cancer cells in the body.   For the cancer to show up on a PET scan or a CT scan, you have to have millions and millions of cancer cells.   The doctor stated that he wished Mike would have finished out the total of 12 treatments before going to Germany but said he would see how Mike was doing when he returned and then finish out the last 2 treatments and order further testing.  Now, I do not see Mike wanting to come back from having this healthy, alternative treatment to be pumped full of toxins that soon after.   However, he does have a follow up appointment with this doctor for the day after he returns.   The oncologist said he would see how Mike was as to whether he would put him on a maintenance chemo or just give him  a break until his values would start to rise again.

Mike is laying on the couch, which is pretty much what he will do the rest of this week after he comes home from work.  The heat and the humidity really bother him, and he is not really able to drink much and is very tired.   If he is not working, he is sleeping.   I cannot imagine how he does it.   We have bought watermelon for him to eat during the day to try to get some fluids into his body.    He is thinking that when he goes in to have his take home chemo cassette taken off in 48 hours,  he will need to have an IV because he will be dehydrated by then.  That happened to him after his 8th treatment.   By the time Friday evening comes around, Mike will have pretty much bounced back and be able to enjoy the weekend.

The accommodations for Mike's stay at Marinus am Stein have been made.  His flight to Munich has been made as well. Mike will leave for Germany on July 19th and then return home on August 3rd.   We will keep in touch through Facetime as well as his international prepaid cell phone.   I am happy that he is returning to Germany, but a little bit nervous as well since I will not be there with him.
We have never been apart for longer than a week so this two week period will be rough.   I think that knowing that he is getting the help he needs will help carry me through this time.

I will keep posting as I get information from Mike from Germany.

STARTING ARRANGEMENTS FOR RETURN TO MARINUS AM STEIN

Wednesday, May 21, 2014

We heard back from Dr. Weber concerning his review of Mike's most recent chemo visits and test results.  Dr. Weber wants Mike to continue with 4 more chemo treatments which would be a total of 10 treatments this time.    Last year, Mike had a total of 7 chemo treatments before he went to Germany.

We are making the arrangements for Mike to go to Germany about 2 weeks after his last treatment to make sure all the nausea and sickness is gone before he has to fly.  He would still be feeling the effects from the chemo the weekend following the last treatment, so he will wait an additional week.

This will be a big step for him.   Last time was first that Mike had ever flown or been in another country other than Canada, so he will have to find someone who speaks English and ask for help if he does not know where to go or what to do.  I will be nervous about him going by himself, but I would rather save the money that would be put towards the cost of me going along to any possible future visits.    I would love to see the country and the people there again, but Mike's health is more important to me than anything else.

So that is where things stand for now.   I am sure Mike is hoping that the summer will fly by.  He will have to relay this decision to his oncologist, but that was one of the options he presented to Mike at his last visit.   I think he understands that Mike is going to do whatever it takes to fight this.

RESULTS PRIOR TO MAY 12, 2014 CHEMO TREATMENT

Wednesday, May 14, 2014

Mike had his 6th chemo treatment (2nd round) on Monday, May 12th.  Prior to this visit, he had blood testing which included his CEA test.    This testing showed that his white blood cell count had gone down to 2.0.   However, the good news is that his CEA level went from 141 down to 26.7!!!

Because  of  where his white blood cells were at, another test was done on Monday to make sure it had not gone down any further.  If it would have fallen below 2.0, then Mike could not have had chemo.   The result came back that it had jumped up to 3.3.   The normal range is 4.0-10.5.   The doctor asked how he was doing with the nausea.  We told him that he was still getting sick.  He was initially placed on Phenergan and then was given Zofran.   The doctor had previously told him that he could double up on the Zofran.    He gave Mike an Ativan to take, feeling that he may be anxious about getting sick.  It seems to be helping.   He then sent him home with a prescription to take for the next few days after each chemo treatment.  He is usually sick Monday-Friday.

Mike went back into the cancer center today to have his "take home chemo" cassette removed from his port. He comes home with this cassette that continues to pump chemo into his body for 48 hours.   Mike had told them that he was having difficulty drinking due to the pain of swallowing and that he did not have a lot of output of urine.   They then hooked him up to an IV to give him fluids so he does not get dehydrated.   Mike works outside so with the hot, humid weather coming and him not being able to drink, it takes a lot out of him.   That is when the sickness really bothers him.  He has been coming home after work and sleeping the rest of the evening on the couch before heading into bed for the night.   He has been a real trooper though.  He continues to work everyday except the day that he has chemo because that is an all day process.     He is my HERO.

The doctor told Mike that he wants him to continue his chemo for a total of 12 visits.  He said at that time, he could go on a maintenance program, take a total break from the chemo, or go back to Germany.    Mike is hoping to return to Germany in August after the chemo treatments. We are also hoping that, although we know what the ill effects are from the chemo, that it can knock the tumors way down so the alternative treatment is Germany will have the best chance for success.   I have just emailed the most recent notes and blood test results to Dr. Weber to see how he thinks Mike should proceed.  He has already said that he feels a 2 week stay would be sufficient this time.   So we will be waiting to hear back from him.

APRIL 15TH VISIT

April 23, 2014

Well it has been over a year since Mike's initial cancer diagnosis (lung) on March 19th and his 1st chemo treatment on April 23, 2013.

Mike's oncologist had scheduled a repeat CEA test on Monday, April 7th and a repeat CT scan on Wednesday, April 9th.   We had thought that only the CEA test would be done to make sure the cancer was responding to the chemo that he was now receiving and had received before.   We did not think at this point that another CT scan would be done.  Mike then had a follow up appointment with his oncologist on Monday, April 15th.

I am happy to report that Mike's CEA level has gone down to 141 from 949.  The CT scan showed that the tumors in his lungs, which had shown increase in the February scan, had shrunk.  It still states that the number of them are too numerous to count.   It also stated that the tumor in his liver had decreased in size, again down from the one in February which had also shown decrease.     I am still hoping that since the chemo has shrunk the cancer in these areas that it is doing the same in the colon. The last this was checked was in November which stated it was not seen,

After this appointment, Mike had his 4th chemo treatment of this round.  He did ask the doctor for a different prescription for his nausea.  He was taking Phenergan but that really was not doing anything for him.   The doctor put him on Zofran.   I had hoped this was helping Mike with his nausea.  He looked better this time around when he came home from work each day.  However, he stated that he felt worse after this week's treatment.   When he has his treatments on Monday, he is usually sick through Thursday, but it gets a little better each day and by Friday he is feeling better.   This time, around he stated that Thursday was his worst day.   He also had difficulty with a stinging, pin-like sensation in his throat and he was unable to drink anything,

At this point, we do not know when the next testing will be.  Mike is hoping to be able to return to Marinus am Stein in Germany after that.  We have been in contact with Dr, Axel Weber there concerning Mike's recent test results.  He stated he would be happy to have Mike come back to the clinic for further treatment (healthy treatment) for two weeks.   We questioned him on why only two weeks.  He felt that would be satisfactory, but if Mike wanted to have three weeks there, that would be fine.   The hyperthermia treatment done there can only be done for a maximum of 3 weeks.  It is something that is usually done every other day, but because they can target his two different areas (lungs & liver), he is able to have the hyperthermia every day.

Since Mike  has now previously experienced a plane flight and the travel to Germany, we have decided that in order to save costs, Mike will go to Germany by himself.   I am still a little nervous about this, but Mike will just have to ask questions or ask for help.   It was a little overwhelming when we went the last time, but at least we had each other to bounce things off of and to try to figure things out.  He says the toughest thing will be trying to find his way out of the Munich Airport.

We will have to wait to see how things unfold with his treatment and further testing,   I will keep everyone posted of any further information.

3 MONTH CHECK

Wednesday, February 26, 2014

Well going into today's 3 month check, we knew that Mike was going to have to make some sort of decision on how to proceed with his fight against his cancer.   Last week Mike had CEA blood testing for his appointment today with his oncologist, Dr. Wyshock.  As we are able to get patient test results through a connection with our local hospital, we found out that Mike's CEA level had risen to 949.

Mike was advised that we had three options:  to go back to his previous chemo regimen, go back to Germany, or do nothing,   Mike told the doctor that going to Germany was not an option primarily I thought, because of the cost,   I thought that maybe he could do to Germany by himself and maybe not have to stay for a full 3 weeks which would be cheaper.   However, after we spoke, Mike made me realize that at this point in time, going to Germany would not help because of his higher level which made sense. When we initially went to Germany, Mike's CEA level was only 54.  The three weeks there brought the level down to 5.  Also, they will only do hyperthermia for 3 weeks at a time.   Those 3 weeks would not be able to bring down the level enough in that amount of time,

Mike, therefore decided to repeat the chemo regimen again.  He will again suffer with the same side effects of his treatment which include an electrical shock-like sensation in his hands, inability to touch anything cold, inability to eat anything cold, a pin prick sensation in his throat if he does eat anything cold or breathes in cold air, sensitivity all over his body to cold.  He will start his treatments on Monday, March 3, 2014.   He will be there all day for his "cocktail".   He hopefully will not start feeling sick until Wednesday, and then hopefully will be feeling better for the weekend.   He should then be good the whole next week until he returns for the next treatment 2 weeks later.  It is going to be a little tougher this time due to the time of year that he is starting this because of the cold weather we are currently having.  It was tough enough the last time when he started this in the warmer weather of April

The dr. then scheduled a CT scan for Friday, February 28th.   This scan can then the compared to the last one Mike had done in July before we went to Germany.   After leaving the oncologist's office, we both realized that the dr. did not tell us how many treatments Mike would require for this round.  If things go the same, he will probably have 6 treatments over 12 weeks and then have testing again to see if there has been any change. We can then compare the last 2 tests and see if anything shrunk or if his CEA level was brought down.

I am hoping that Mike does not suffer too much with this round of treatment.   He has been so regimented in the things he is doing to treat this horrible disease.  There is no one more disciplined than he is.  He is trying to do everything right for his body and then sees people who have no regard for what they are putting into and doing to their bodies.  Please cherish the good health that you have and do not take it for granted.

I will keep you posted on how Mike progresses this time around.   I wanted to thank everyone who has shown interest in this blog. Hopefully Mike has inspired others in searching out alternative measures and striving to do all you can to help take care of your body.

REBOUNDING ON A TRAMPOLINE

Rebounding: Good for the Lymph System

The body has a built-in need for activation. The lymph system, for example, bathes every cell, carrying nutrients to the cell and waste products away. Yet the lymph is totally dependent on physical exercise to move.

Without adequate movement, the cells are left stewing in their own waste products and starving for nutrients, a situation that contributes to arthritis, cancer and other degenerative diseases. Vigorous exercise such as rebounding [jumping on a therapeutic mini-trampoline] is reported to increase lymph flow by 15 to 30 times. Also, bones become stronger with exercise.

Vertical motion workouts such as rebounding are much different and much more beneficial and efficient than horizontal motion workouts, such as jogging or running.

The lymph fluid moves through channels called “vessels” that are filled with one-way valves, so it always moves in the same direction. The main lymph vessels run up the legs, up the arms and up the torso. This is why the vertical up-and-down movement of rebounding is so effective to pump the lymph.

Rebounding For Detoxification And Immune System Benefits

The rebounding motion stimulates all internal organs, moves the cerebral-spinal fluid and the aqueous fluid within the eyes (many people claim improved eyesight), and does wonders for the intestines. Many immune cells such as T-lymphocytes and macrophages are self-propelled by amoebic action. These cells contain molecules identical to those in muscle tissue. All cells in the body become stronger in response to the increased G-force during rebounding, and this cellular exercise results in the self-propelled immune cells being up to five times more active. The job description of these cells includes eating viruses, bacteria and even cancer cells, so it is good that they be active. This exercise directly strengthens the immune system.

Rebounding is an exercise that reduces your body fat; firms your legs, thighs, abdomen, arms, and hips; increases your agility; and improves your sense of balance. Rebounding strengthens your muscles overall, provides an aerobic effect for your heart, rejuvenates your body when it’s tired, and generally puts you in a state of health and fitness.

Jumping on a rebounder is remarkably gentle on the joints. There’s no solid ground to suddenly stop the bouncing of your feet. Your movements are perfectly safe, and they make the effect of gravity beneficial.

Some benefits of rebounding include:

• 20 minutes of rebounding = 1 hour of running for cardiovascular workout
• Easy on the bones and joints (when using a therapeutic rebounder)
• Rebounding strengthens the heart muscle
• Profound body detoxification is possible

By working against constant gravitational pressure while bouncing, you resist Earth’s pull. Your resistance is subtle, but it builds cellular strength. Rebounding’s alternating weightlessness and double gravity produce a pumping action that pulls out waste products from the cells and forces into them oxygen and nutrition from the bloodstream.

The Detoxification Effect of Rebounding

The lymphatic system is the metabolic garbage can of the body. It rids you of toxins such as dead and cancerous cells, nitrogenous wastes, infectious viruses, heavy metals, and other assorted junk cast off by the cells. The movement performed in rebounding provides the stimulus for a free-flowing system that drains away these potential poisons.

Unlike the arterial system, the lymphatic system does not have its own pump. It has no heart muscle to move the fluid around through its lymph vessels. There are just three ways to activate the flow of lymph away from the tissues it serves and back into the main pulmonary circulation. Lymphatic flow requires muscular contraction from exercise and movement, gravitational pressure, and internal massage to the valves of lymph ducts. Rebounding supplies all three methods of removing waste products from the cells and from the body.

The Muscular Effect of Rebounding

James White, Ph.D., director of research and rehabilitation in the physical education department at the University of California at San Diego (UCSD), has explained how jumping for health offers a true physical strengthening effect to the muscles.
“Rebounding allows the muscles to go through the full range of motion at equal force. It helps people learn to shift their weight properly and to be aware of body positions and balance,” says White.
An advocate of rebounding for athletic conditioning, White uses the rebounder in his rehabilitation program at UCSD. “When you jump, jog, and twist on this [jumping] device, you can exercise for hours without getting tired. It’s great practice for skiing, it improves your tennis stroke, and it’s a good way to burn off calories and lose weight,” says White.
“My students tell me it’s so much fun that they often exercise on the rebounders for their own enjoyment.”
White adds that jumping for health is more effective for fitness and weight loss than cycling, running or jogging, and it has the added advantage of producing fewer injuries.

The gentle bounce of rebounding is effective in returning natural, regular bowel movements to chronically constipated persons. The steady bounce sets up a pulsating rhythm transmitted by the nervous system to the brain area responsible for regulating the intestinal system, which reestablishes one’s rhythmical bowel activity. Digestion is improved as well.

It is important to realize that as you age, your body may become more toxic due to the pollutants in today’s world. It is also important to realize that if you have a disease, your cellular structure is compromised, as your cells are already being robbed of the correct oxygen, mineral and nutrient compounds that they need to stay healthy.

Rebounding is beneficial, but other commonsense health practices are also important to maximize health and well-being.

INFRA RED SAUNA TREATMENT

The next item we purchased was an infra red sauna.   Mike had been undergoing these saunas once a week at a local alternative health practice along with his Vitamin C infusions.    He now can do this at home at his convenience.  He usually does this every other day for a 1/2 hour.   The sauna pulls the toxins out of his body.

The following comes from Rethinking Cancer
Infrared Sauna Therapy For Cancer
By Lawrence Wilson, M.D.

Inhibiting the Sympathetic Nervous System Relaxes and Heals the Body

The sympathetic branch of the autonomic nervous system in our bodies activates the brain, muscles, thyroid and adrenal glands in response to stress.
However, it strongly inhibits digestion, the immune response and eliminative organ function as well. Cancer patients desperately need more immune, digestive and eliminative activity.
Saunas have the ability to powerfully reduce the activity of the sympathetic system.
William Donald Kelley, DDS, shortly before he recently passed on, endorsed the use of only the near infrared sauna for the cancer patients.
Saunas powerfully inhibit the sympathetic system in several ways
*Heating the body greatly slows normal heat production, a sympathetic activity. (See Guyton, A., Textbook of Medical Physiology, 6th ed, p. 892). Saunas draw blood from the center to the periphery of the body to dissipate the heat. This also opposes an important sympathetic nervous activity, which is to draw blood to the central part of the body as a protection against attack.

Saunas cause the body to eliminate toxic substances of many kinds that irritate the tissues, keeping the body in a sympathetic state. These toxins include most pesticides, hundreds of other toxic chemicals and a number of extremely toxic metals as well, such as mercury.
Hyperthermia Damages and Even Kills Cancer Tissue
Hyperthermia is a well-known method of disabling weaker and more heat-sensitive cancers. While saunas are not nearly as potent as hyperthermia at 106-108 degrees E, infrared saunas can heat the body a few degrees, causing a fever. This is a much gentler method, much slower, but safer method and easier to tolerate and control.

Infrared lamp saunas are much better for this purpose than traditional saunas because near infrared saunas penetrate the skin and heat the tissues several inches inside the'body. Also, the lligts can be directed right at the cancer, which cannot be done with any other sauna, including far infrared or traditional types of saunas. This is another powerful advantage of the near infrared lamp sauna.

Improving Circulation Powerfully Removes Dead Cancer Tissue and Greatly Supports Nutrition and Oxygenation of the Body

Cancer often grows in tissues with poor circulation. This is unfortunately a cause of cancer all by itself. Saunas powerfully shunt the blood from the internal organs to the periphery of the body in an attempt to get rid of the heat. They also increase circulation to the lungs, improving oxygenation. This combination has a powerful stimulating effect on circulation. This can be an incalculable benefit for cancer patients, many of whom cannot or should not exercise much, and is particularly good for older patients as well for this same reason.

Decongesting The Liver And Other Internal Organs

Congestion of the liver, kidneys and other internal organs inhibits the detoxification of all toxic substances in our bodies. This is a very critical problem for cancer patients. For this reason, Dr. Max Gerson, MD, recommended coffee enemas, juices and other methods to assist liver and colon elimination.

Sauna therapy with near infrared, in particular, assists detoxification of these organs in two ways. We have already mentioned improved circulation to the entire body.

However, even more important is that saunas move blood away from the center of the body toward the extremities to get rid of the heat. This helps decongest the internal organs in a wonderful way. This is a key to their proper use as well. The sauna must be used several times daily for the best results, unless the patient cannot tolerate it well, then one session daily is okay. This is one reason we want patients to have their own inexpensive sauna unit at home

Here are pictures of the sauna we purchased:

JUICING

The Gerson Therapy is a natural treatment that activates the body’s extraordinary ability to heal itself through an organic, vegetarian diet, raw juices, coffee enemas and natural supplements.

With its whole-body approach to healing, the Gerson Therapy naturally reactivates your body’s magnificent ability to heal itself – with no damaging side effects. This a powerful, natural treatment boosts the body’s own immune system to heal cancer, arthritis, heart disease, allergies, and many other degenerative diseases. Dr. Max Gerson developed the Gerson Therapy in the 1930s, initially as a treatment for his own debilitating migraines, and eventually as a treatment for degenerative diseases such as skin tuberculosis, diabetes and, most famously, cancer.

The Gerson Therapy‘s all-encompassing nature sets it apart from most other treatment methods. The Gerson Therapy effectively treats a wide range of different ailments because it restores the body’s incredible ability to heal itself. Rather than treating only the symptoms of a particular disease, the Gerson Therapy treats the causes of most degenerative diseases: toxicity and nutritional deficiency.
An abundance of nutrients from copious amounts of fresh, organic juices are consumed every day, providing your body with a super-dose of enzymes, minerals and nutrients. These substances then break down diseased tissue in the body, while coffee enemas aid in eliminating toxins from the liver.
Throughout our lives our bodies are being filled with a variety of carcinogens and toxic pollutants. These toxins reach us through the air we breathe, the food we eat, the medicines we take and the water we drink. The Gerson Therapy’s intensive detoxification regimen eliminates these toxins from the body, so that true healing can begin.

How the Gerson Therapy Works

The Gerson Therapy regenerates the body to health, supporting each important metabolic requirement by flooding the body with nutrients from about 15- 20 pounds of organically grown fruits and vegetables daily. Most is used to make fresh raw juice, up to one glass every hour, up to 13 times per day. Raw and cooked solid foods are generously consumed. Oxygenation is usually more than doubled, as oxygen deficiency in the blood contributes to many degenerative diseases. The metabolism is also stimulated through the addition of thyroid, potassium and other supplements, and by avoiding heavy animal fats, excess protein, sodium and other toxins.

Degenerative diseases render the body increasingly unable to excrete waste materials adequately, commonly resulting in liver and kidney failure. The Gerson Therapy uses intensive detoxification to eliminate wastes, regenerate the liver, reactivate the immune system and restore the body’s essential defenses – enzyme, mineral and hormone systems. With generous, high-quality nutrition, increased oxygen availability, detoxification, and improved metabolism, the cells – and the body – can regenerate, become healthy and prevent future illness.

Juicing

Fresh pressed juice from raw foods provides the easiest and most effective way of providing high quality nutrition. By juicing, patients can take in the nutrients and enzymes from nearly 15 pounds of produce every day, in a manner that is easy to digest and absorb.

Every day, a typical patient on the Gerson Therapy for cancer consumes up to thirteen glasses of fresh, raw carrot/apple and green-leaf juices. These juices are prepared hourly from fresh, raw, organic fruits and vegetables, using a two-step juicer or a masticating juicer used with a separate hydraulic press.

We purchased the Jack LaLane juicer from Amazon which works great.    The recipe Mike uses tastes pretty good.    It includes romaine lettuce, spinach, kale, cucumber, green squash, celery, granny smith apple, lemon, line, and ginger.  We purchase the vegetables on the weekend and Mike freezes cups of this for him to drink throughout the week.  We do not know how much vitamins are lost this way, but with all the other things he does throughout the week after he gets home from work, he is not able to do this fresh every day.

Sorry, for some reason, I could not get the pictures to turn.  There is a disposal container that catches the wastes from the vegetables and fruits that makes clean up easy.

Another thing that was suggested to Mike by  a fellow patient at the clinic was coffee enemas, especially with his liver cancer.   He is only able to do this on the weekends.

Detoxification

Coffee enemas are the primary method of detoxification of the tissues and blood on the Gerson Therapy. Cancer patients on the Gerson Therapy may take up to 5 coffee enemas per day. Charlotte Gerson explains the necessity of coffee enemas in Healing the Gerson Way:
“The moment a patient is put on the full therapy, the combined effect of the food, the juices and the medication causes the immune system to attack and kill tumor tissue, besides working to flush out accumulated toxins from the body tissues. This great clearing-out procedure carries the risk of overburdening and poisoning the liver—the all-important organ of detoxification, which, in a cancer patient, is bound to be already damaged and debilitated.”
Coffee enemas accomplish this essential task, assisting the liver in eliminating toxic residues from the body for good.

Is the Gerson Therapy Right For You?

No treatment works for everyone, every time. Anyone who tells you otherwise is not giving you the facts. We know that when you have been diagnosed with a life-threatening ailment, choosing the best strategy for fighting your illness can be a bewildering task. Everyone claims to have either “the best treatment”, “the fastest cure”, or “the only therapy that works.” In most cases your trusted family physician only has knowledge of conventional treatments, and is either unaware of, or even hostile toward alternative options.
No matter how many opinions you receive on how to treat your disease, you are going to make the final decision on what to do, and you must be comfortable with your decision. Choose a treatment that makes the most sense to you.
Most therapies–conventional or alternative–treat only the individual symptoms while ignoring what is ultimately causing the disease. The reason the Gerson Therapy is effective with so many different ailments is because it restores the body’s incredible ability to heal itself. Rather than treating only the symptoms of a particular disease, the Gerson Therapy treats the cause of the disease itself. Although we feel the Gerson Therapy is the most comprehensive treatment for disease, we don’t claim it will cure everything or everyone.

Caution: Do not start the Gerson Therapy if any of the following conditions apply without referring to Charlotte Gerson’s book, Healing the Gerson Way, or without the supervision of a Gerson doctor:
  • Chemotherapy
  • Diabetes
  • Brain metastases
  • Severe kidney damage and/or if the patient has ever been on dialysis
  • Foreign bodies such as pacemakers, breast implants, steel plates or screws.
Patients must be able to eat, drink and eliminate normally

PRODUCTS MIKE USES IN HIS FIGHT AGAINST CANCER

January 25,  2014

I wanted to write a post about the appliances/machines  that Mike uses in his fight against cancer.  I have spoke about things he does while using these things, but I wanted to show you what he does use.
There are many things out there to try and use, but each person has to decide what route they want to take and what will be best for them.

Prior to going to the clinic in Germany, we talked to two gentleman who had been there for treatment and asked what they were doing on their own at home to control their cancer.   They told us about water filtration systems that they use. Cancer loves the body to be in a state of acidity.  Mike decided this was one of the first things he was going to do.  So we purchased  a water filtration system.

This system takes chemicals and metals out of the water. This machine will make alkaline, purified, or acidic water.  Therefore, Mike drinks the alkaline water to put his body in the opposite direction of what the cancer wants.   He even has our dogs drinking the alkaline water.   I have just started drinking this myself.  In the beginning, Mike dove headfirst into drinking the highest level of Alkaline water he could.  However, it gave him flu-like symptoms.   The body has to be gradually adjusted to this.   The highest level on this machine is a 4 which has a pH of 9.5.   I am currently at a level of 3.  The following is taken from lifeionizers.com.

Alkaline water is water with a pH of greater than 7. In nature, water gets alkalinity from the minerals it absorbs. The most common minerals found in alkaline water are calcium, magnesium and potassium. These minerals are commonly found in tap water as mineral carbonates such as calcium carbonates and magnesium carbonates. Tap water rich in mineral carbonates is considered to be hard water.

Did you know? Hard water with it’s mineral carbonates can also be alkaline water if it has a pH of greater than 7. But it’s not the same kind of alkaline water that you get from a water ionizer!
Water ionizers make tap water more alkaline by separating the minerals from the carbonates. Once freed of the carbonates, the minerals chemically combine with hydroxyl ions taken from water molecules - to form mineral hydroxides. These mineral hydroxides - calcium hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide are recognized by the FDA for their contribution to human nutrition (FDA GRAS).

Alkaline water from a water ionizer has been in the USA for about 20 years, but has been studied and consumed in Asia for over a 50 years. The US FDA has not evaluated alkaline water for health purposes since it is not considered a drug; the information on this page about alkaline water comes from Japan and the Mayo Clinic in the USA.

A pH of 9.5 is recommended for daily use

There are three main benefits to Ionized Water.

First and foremost, it is a powerful antioxidant. People spend hundreds of dollars a month purchasing antioxidants because they are anti-diseases, anti-aging, anti-cancer, which they accomplish through neutralizing free radicals. Free Radical damage causes us to age and causes disease. Since Ionized Water is a liquid antioxidant, it is easily absorbed into the body which makes it much more effective and a powerful antioxidant.

Once the Ionized Antioxidant in the form of Hydroxyl Ions (oxygen molecule with an extra electron) donates its extra electrons to free radicals (oxygen molecule that is missing one electron) you are left with lots of oxygen. Ionized Water gives you Energy by providing your body with lots of oxygen! This is one of the most incredible aspects of Ionized Water!  ( cancer does not like oxygen)

Secondly, Ionized Water Balances body pH because it is very alkaline. Our diet is often extremely acidic . Soft drinks, fast foods & processed foods deposit acid waste in our bodies that builds up over time and creates an ideal environment for diseases of all kinds to thrive. Look at any cancer patient for instance and their bodies are invariably acidic to some degree. This is, of course, true even with children. Chronic soft drink consumers such as children put themselves in grave danger by allowing their bodies to build up acid waste. Many end up with serious diseases at a very young age. Maintaining an alkaline pH (6.9-7.2) helps us to maintain an environment in our bodies that is NOT conducive to disease. It may take years depending on how acidic your body is, but Ionized Water, because of its alkaline properties, will flush acid waste from our bodies.

Ionized Water is meant to work as a preventative measure, however if you are ill with any disease it always helps to stay Alkaline. Spirulina and Chlorella are also good for this.

Thirdly, Ionized Water has a different molecular cluster size. It contains only five to six water molecules instead of the ten to thirteen that conventional water molecule clusters have. It has changed from an irregular shape that is 10-13 molecule to a hexagonal regular shape that is half the size. This smaller or "reduced" water is much more hydrating than conventional water. There are two consequences of this. First, Ionized Water is much more hydrating than conventional water and, second, it is extremely detoxifying.

The detoxification properties of Ionized Water are powerful and astounding. They simply can not be ignored. A Water Ionizer has different levels of intensity because the average person cannot start out drinking strongly ionized Water. This is particularly true of the elderly, who need to start out at the lowest level and work their way up slowly. People who have spent a lifetime building up acid waste in their bodies will suffer headaches and diarrhea if they drink too much too soon.

CONTINUING TO DO WHAT IS NEEDED

Monday, January 06, 2014

Happy New Year!  Hope,

I hope this finds you and you loved ones in good health.  Mike and I are hoping for a better year this year and continued success with his treatment to co-existing with his cancer.

Mike is continuing to take his daily supplements, drinking his alkaline water, receiving his weekly Vitamin C infusions, and eating organically/carbohydrate (as much as possible) & sugar free.  We have also ordered a juicer as he is going to start juicing green vegetables.   He already eats a lot of broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, cabbage, brussel sprouts, green beans but is now going to be incorporating spinach, kale, and cucumbers into his diet.   He has been continuing to eat tomatoes and onions which he is not particularly fond of, but does it because he knows it is beneficial to his health.

When we were in Germany, Mike from Tazmania (a patient there as well) showed us a video - Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead by Joe Cross from Australia.  He did nothing but drink green juices and lost a lot of weight and became healthier by doing this.  It was suggested to Mike that he should juice by a couple of different patients while we were at Marinus am Stein.  The juicing helps the body heal itself by giving proper nutrients to the immune system which in turns helps the body to self heal.

The following is taken from The Benefits of Juicing for Cancer Patients at Livestrong.com:

Juicing is a way to get antioxidants -- substances that protect the body from cellular damage created by free       radicals. According to the National Cancer Institute, free radicals can cause cancer or progress an existing        disease.

Phytonutrients  provide a boost to the immune system, aid cell-to-cell communication, fight cancer, and              repair DNA damage resulting from free radicals.

Each and everyone has to determine what is best for their own health and do what they need to do to maintain their health.   Best Wishes in 2014!
